Hypnose scripts: Voor therapeuten en zelfhypnose

Hypnosis scripts can be a useful tool when using self-hypnosis or as a basis when helping someone in your practice. Hypnosis scripts have been used for decades by therapists and in other situations where hypnosis can play a role, such as at the dentist when someone actually has a fear of the dentist [1] .

A dentist or therapist can use the script as a guide for suggestions for the client to help them relax and for example to strengthen their ego. A therapist can also choose to adapt the script to better suit the client.

You have hypnosis scripts for all sorts of hypnotic phenomena. Sometimes it is nice to have a script at hand to induce and deepen hypnosis.

In other cases, a script can be useful if you want to use a specific technique to help your clients further.

Hypnosis scripts for induction and deepening

There are all sorts of inductions possible with which you can get your client into hypnosis. You have quick inductions and inductions that take a bit more time. After inducing hypnosis it is also always nice to deepen the hypnotic state before you move on to the techniques to solve your client’s problem.

A script alone for inducing hypnosis is often not enough, and it is also important to tailor the induction to your client [2] . First of all, it is very important that you have built up a rapport, a kind of bond, with your client so that they trust you when you finally induce the hypnotic state.

You build the bond during the preliminary interview and during this interview you can also determine which type of induction will help this client the most.

Now, you don’t have to read the script during hypnotherapy, but it can be helpful to read the script with the induction that suits your client beforehand and remember it. That way, you can use it smoothly and calmly, without your client being bothered by paper rustling or a kind of reading tone.

Then you can deepen the hypnosis. There are also different scripts for this. One of the most well-known is that you let your client walk down a staircase to a basement. In that basement is a door. The door leads to a safe, nice place for your client. Then your client can open the door.

It is important that your client knows where he/she is going before the door is opened so that your client does not become afraid of the unknown, but rather goes to a familiar place.

Hypnosis scripts for techniques

Once hypnosis has been induced the actual treatment begins and for some problems different techniques are needed.

There are all kinds of scripts, for example for strengthening self-confidence, talking to your inner child, processing fear or trauma and even improving sleep.

Self confidence

For self-confidence, a script can be used to strengthen self-confidence, self-belief, reduce fear and worry, and improve the way people deal with problems. This is also called ego strengthening.

This is also often a technique that is intertwined with other techniques for solving problems other than just strengthening the ego [3] .

For fears, such as exam anxiety, there are many hypnosis scripts that can be used as standard for students. A small adjustment so that it really fits the client and the fears and worries that the client has can do much more, but for these types of problems a standard script can also do a lot [4] .

Reducing anxiety during exams can also do a lot to improve performance. But improving performance as a goal can also be achieved, both in mental performance or in sports performance. Therapists can also use hypnotic scripts in such cases [5] .

Inner child

Engaging in conversation with the inner child is quite an advanced technique and having a script to go through before the treatment can be helpful.

The inner child is the part of yourself that was created during childhood and that has a connection with the adult self and that can hinder the adult self through the “wound”. The goal of having a conversation with the inner child is to heal the child so that it can enter into a healthy partnership with the adult self. The following elements can be important for this:

  • Grieving over childhood loss.
  • Making parents less mystical beings.
  • Re-educating yourself

These are quite complicated processes and following a script word for word will not be a solution for everyone.

Hypnosis script as a basis for suggestion

This is because you can best see the hypnosis script as a kind of basis for the suggestions that you are going to give. With techniques, such as those for the inner child, it is very important to listen well and to respond to signals that you receive from the client. Everyone is ultimately unique [6] .

For relatively simple problems in the first place, such as improving sleep, scripts to promote relaxation are often useful. However, do you notice that this does not solve the problem?

Then it is wise to adapt the script to the client, use other techniques or perhaps even go back to the inner child or regression to solve the problems.
